A Note On Certifications
Little compares to experience, study, dedication, and investment of time. Many exceptional teachers are not certified, and it is my opinion that this is not always a red flag.
That said—if knowing that your teacher or guide is certified is important to you, keep this in mind: all certifications are not equal.
A growing desire to work with a certified teacher has prompted a rise in “certifications” offered by individuals and groups who do not provide accredited instruction and who do not report to any kind of governing body who could ensure that the curriculum is accurate, appropriate, and comprehensive.
Sometimes these individuals and groups have the best of intentions and truly believe in their curriculum, and sometimes they don’t.
If it is worthwhile to require that your teacher be certified, it is also worthwhile to ask questions about that certification.
All of my certifications are through accredited groups who are held to certain standards for instruction and certification, and I am registered with Yoga Alliance.
